NewarkRx is an innovative program created in partnership with the Heinz Family Philanthropies to assist low-income, uninsured or underinsured New Jersey residents with obtaining access to critically needed, often life-sustaining, prescription medications. NewarkRx is dedicated to helping patients get prescription medicine for free or at a deep discount. The goal of this program is to help make healthcare more affordable for Newarkers, so they can stay healthy and avoid preventable emergency department visits or hospitalizations. For more information see the program website: http://www.ps2healthcare.org.
Individuals who are uninsured may be eligible to receive a year of brand-name medication for free through NewarkRx. There is no limit to the number of prescriptions or dollar value of this benefit and it is free to both the patient and provider. Interested patients can enroll in this program by visiting any Newark Now location with an original prescription. Another component of the program is the Brick City Rx generic formulary. NewarkRx partners with a number of local pharmacies to offer several hundred generic medications for as little as $2 for a 30-day supply. The latest program available to Newark residents is the City of Newark Free Discount Prescription Card. This card provides individuals with a discount of up to 65% off prescription medication, regardless of insurance. The card can be used a wide array of City drug stores, including all major chains and most independent pharmacies. The card also offers substantial discounts on lab fees and tests, helps with some expenses not covered by Medicare, and has no health, age, or income restrictions. The Newark Rx Discount Card is available at many city buildings, Newark Now sites, local pharmacies, or online at www.coast2coastrx.com/newarknj.
