Fatherhood Alumni Update
Once per-month the fatherhood program host a monthly Alumni meeting for members that have graduated from D.A.D.S. (DELTA ALPHA DELTA SIGMA). We meet at Essex County College the third Saturday of each month in the yellow snack bar area from 10:00am to 12:00noon.
The purpose of the Alumni meeting is to keep graduate fathers engage in activities and promote brotherhood and self-empowerment, by inviting guest speakers to come in and encourage the DADS through messages that are motivational.
Fatherhood is very proud to announce that each year we collaborate with Goldman Sachs to come out and spend a day with our students. On Wednesday June 22, 2011 nine CTW (COMMUNITY TEAM WORKER) volunteers spent the day at fatherhood from 9:00am to 3:00pm with class#16. They did resume development and mock interviews with the guys to prepare them for work. This was a very special day and our fathers was empowered with tools, skills, knowledge and information on how to become more productive in the work environment.
A real community is people taking responsibility for their own environments as we did collectively on June 21, 2011 at the Miller Street School BBQ. We intend to empower our community one block at a time, one resident at a time and one heart at a time. Because many are giving up on their goals and dreams because community value systems are missing and it's incumbent upon us to bring unity back in the community. Our job as fathers is to become men, enact our roles, develop our minds and produce new ideas for our families, communities, and country. If fathers fail then society pays a heavy price! Many would say that absent fathers are the causes of youth delinquency but it's personal irresponsibility that contribute to the anti- behavior of our youth and lack of positive male role models.
Our Alumni meeting for the month was on Father's day where we took 30 fathers and their children on a boat ride across the Passaic River. These fathers and their kids met at Newark City Hall and was bused to the river and provided life jackets as they toured the view of NJPAC, Kearny and got a historical lesson about the river itself. The tour was three hours and the fathers/and their kids was excited.
FATHERS NOW intends to continue empowering fathers by getting them to first understand their lack of parenting, accepting their flaws and building upon their strengths by creating models of success they can follow along the path of their reconstruction. This will be done by the monthly and weekly activities. We empower DADS (DELTA ALPHA DELTA SIGMA).
