Family Success Centers
Newark Now operates neighborhood-based Family Success Centers that are strength-based, culturally competent, and able to provide convenient and coordinated access to information, support, and resources that families need to be successful. The Family Success Centers provide a range of governmental and non-governmental services and support to promote safety, well-being, and self-sufficiency for families who voluntarily request assistance at the Center sites.
The Centers are staffed, in part, by members of the community, and are supported by partnerships with government agencies and community organizations who help facilitate the provision of services and resources such as General Assistance and TANF, the Earned Income Tax Credit, Food Stamps, health insurance, free prescription drug coverage, pre-natal care, career readiness activities, parenting workshops, anti-violence workshops, and nutrition workshops.
Over the past year, Newark Now has served more than 1000 unduplicated families at its 3 Centers. In addition, Newark Now serves in an intermediary role, helping to facilitate the work of all 15 Newark-based Family Success Centers with regard to the sharing of best practices (e.g. monthly Network meetings), creation of data collection systems (e.g. a comprehensive system developed by Business Access), development of strategies to increase awareness of the Centers' work (including a website and newsletter), and identification of additional resources to support the Centers' work.
The Family Success Centers always strives to improve our services, resources, and workshops, while valuing the community's opinion in doing so. As a means of collection, we have created a survey. This online survey is a quick questionnaire that requests information on what the community wants and needs. Please complete the online survey and HELP US YOUR community! We Want YOUR OPINION

The US Census Bureau's 2011 "Facts for Features" revealed that in 2007, there were $137.4 billion in receipts for black-owned business, up 60.5 percent from 2002. Let's keep the movement of black-owned business on the rise. This August, the Family Success Centers celebrate: Black Business Month. This national holiday is in its 8th year and we want to continue to support back business in the tradition of seeking and supporting black owned businesses by maintaining relationships and making purchases at shops and through services. In addition, the Family Success Centers want to encourage entrepreneurship and financial well being through workshops and seminars FREE to the community.
"Hill of Beans", a rudimentary budgeting model that helps you make "cents" of "beans", is being bought to the Boys and Girls Club this summer to 8 and 9 year olds. The same program is being shared with seniors of several Newark Housing Authority senior homes. We want to share the concept and importance of budgeting during these rough times with the young and the "mature".
We have also partnered with Good Will Works which carries a motto of "Strengthening Families Through Employment", they will conduct employment workshops at the Bradley Court and Georgia King Village Family Success Centers on 8/4/2011 from 11-12pm.
